We do everything on our mobile phones these days. Updating your LinkedIn profile should not be an exception. On the bus, train, or anywhere you are, there is no excuse not to keep your LinkedIn profile up-to-date. All you have to do is open the LinkedIn app and tap on the “Me” option. There, follow these three simple steps to refresh your LinkedIn account with your latest information:
1) Keep a list of relevant skills
The Skills & Endorsements section allows others to understand your strengths as a professional. According to LinkedIn, member profiles with 5 or more skills listed are messaged up to 33 times more. Your chances of having your profile viewed also increase up to 17 times more. When writing your skills, try to think of what it takes to be in your position. From communication, project management, and technical skills like working with InDesign or Photoshop – add them all. Every skill counts!
2) Share Your Location
Add your location to your profile. This small detail makes it easier for other people to find you, and allows you to reconnect with colleagues even if they have moved recently. Also, recruiters usually use this tool when they are looking for a candidate. The more detailed your profile is, the more likely you are to be found.
3) Update Your Experience
Make sure you add and update your job experiences as you progress through your career. Look at your LinkedIn profile as a window to your professional life. If you’ve recently changed jobs, update your profile. Add your job title at each company, recent projects you have worked on, daily tasks and responsibilities, and any other relevant information about your position. Remember, this is all part of the story you are telling to construct your professional brand.
